‘Carry Your Case, Sir?’

The Barrow Boys and Girls of the Yorkshire Coast

As a new working week begins, it was a real honour to attend the official book launch of ‘Carry Your Case, Sir? The Barrow Boys and Girls of the Yorkshire Coast’.

This took place on Friday 3rd October 2025 at Bridlington’s beautiful railway station, with the Barrow Boy statue forming a stunning backdrop.

This project came about thanks to the involvement of various organisations including Bridlington Town Council, Department for Transport, and Network Rail.

Other organisations included Yorkshire Coast Community Railway Partnership, and of course, the Barrow Boys and Girls of the Yorkshire Coast Railway Line.

My involvement centred around the research for the book, including discovering photographs and images, carrying out interviews and more.

It was such an honour to be involved and I was supported by so many people along the way.

The Yorkshire Barrow Boys and Girls are an important part of our social history and these young entrepreneurs can now be found around the globe including in places such as Australia.

Thank you to everyone involved, and seeing it ‘in the flesh’ is a very proud moment for Faith Young Writer.
